Drawn Before It's Made

Every thin band prong setting starts as a CAD model on my screen, with prongs drawn to your stone's outline and a head scaled to a fine band, not a stock head pulled from a catalog.

Set By Hand in New York

Prongs on a thin band have to be strong enough to hold and fine enough to disappear. I shape each one at the bench, one ring at a time.

Thin Band Prong Engagement Ring FAQ

Why a prong setting on a thin band?

Prongs expose the most diamond to light, and a thin band shows the least metal. Together they make the stone look as large and bright as it possibly can.

Four prongs or six prongs on a thin band?

Four prongs show more diamond and make a round read slightly square from above. Six keep the outline round and add security if one prong ever takes a hit. For active hands, I lean toward six.

Are prongs secure on a thin band?

Yes, when they are built with enough gold at the base and tip. Prongs wear slowly over years, so a yearly check at the bench is worth doing, and workmanship is covered by the lifetime warranty.

Do prong settings snag on clothing?

Well-finished prongs are smoothed and rounded at the tips, so snagging is rare. If it is a real concern, a bezel is the snag-free alternative on the same thin band.

Which diamond shapes work in a thin band prong setting?

Every shape works in prongs. Pear and marquise need a V-prong over each point; emerald cut and princess need their corners protected. The prong layout is drawn to your stone before anything is cast.

What wedding band goes with a thin band prong ring?

A low prong setting on a thin band pairs flush with a matching 1.5mm or 2mm band. I make both to order and size them together so they meet cleanly.
