Solitaire Engagement Rings

One Lab-Grown Diamond, one band, nothing competing for attention. The solitaire is the ring every other style is measured against.

Drawn Before It's Made

Every solitaire starts as a CAD model on my screen. With one stone and nothing else, proportion is the whole design, so none of it comes from a catalog.

Set By Hand in New York

A solitaire hides nothing. Every prong and every millimeter of the band is on show, which is why I finish each one by hand at the bench.

Solitaire Engagement Ring FAQ

What is a solitaire engagement ring?

A ring built around a single center diamond, with no halo and no side stones competing for attention. The band can be plain gold or carry small pavé accents and still count as a solitaire, because the center stone remains the only focal point.

Which diamond shape looks biggest in a solitaire?

The elongated shapes. At 1ct, a marquise runs about 10mm long, a pear and an oval about 8mm, against 6.5mm for a round. If you want the most visible diamond for the weight, start with oval, pear, or marquise. If you want the most sparkle, start with round.

Prong or bezel setting for a solitaire?

Prongs let more light into the diamond and show more of the stone, which is why they are the classic choice. A bezel wraps the edge in a thin rim of gold, so nothing snags and nothing chips, which makes it the better pick for nurses, climbers, and anyone hard on their hands.

How thick should a solitaire band be?

A 1.5mm or 2mm band makes the center stone look larger by contrast, and it is the most requested width I make. From 2.5mm up, the band feels more substantial and holds its shape better over decades of wear. If you want the delicate look, see the thin band collection.

Will a solitaire look too plain?

Only if the proportions are wrong. A well-cut stone in a well-proportioned setting reads as confident, not plain. If you want detail without losing the solitaire look, a hidden halo or a cathedral shoulder adds interest from the side while keeping the top view clean.

Does a wedding band sit flush against a solitaire?

A solitaire is the easiest style to pair. With a low setting, a straight band sits flush with no gap. Because both rings are made to order, I size them together so they meet cleanly from day one.
