Every pear below is made to order in my Queens workshop in solid 14K gold, with platinum on request. A 1ct pear measures about 8×5mm, stretching well past a 6.5mm round. Pick the setting that stops you, and I build it to your size in 7–10 business days.

Toward the fingertip is traditional, and it does the most to lengthen the hand. Pointing toward the wrist is rarer and reads more personal and unconventional. Both are correct; decide before I draw the CAD, because the prong layout is built around the direction.
Yes. A 1ct pear runs about 8mm long against a 6.5mm round, because it spreads its weight lengthwise instead of carrying it in depth. On the hand it reads close to an oval in presence, with a sharper silhouette.
Between 1.45 and 1.75 is the range most people find balanced, and 1.60 is the safe middle, which is exactly what an 8×5mm 1ct gives you. Lower reads short and plump; higher reads long and slender.
Most do, to some degree: a darker band across the widest part where facets fail to return light. It never appears on a lab report, which is why I look at every pear face-up at the bench before it goes into a setting instead of buying to specification alone.
Uncovered, the tip is the most chip-prone edge on any shape. Covered, it is not a concern. Every pear I set gets a V-prong over the point, which wraps the tip in gold and takes the knocks the diamond would otherwise take.
A straight band works with a low pear solitaire. If the setting sits higher or has a hidden halo, a contoured band hugs the rounded end and closes the gap. Both rings are made to order, so I build them as a pair.
