It's one of the first questions that comes up once you've settled on a plain band: shiny, or matte? High polish or brushed satin? It seems like a small decision, but it changes how the ring reads on your hand every single day — and how much you'll notice it needs a polish.
What High Polish Actually Looks Like
High polish is the traditional choice — a mirror-bright surface that catches light hard and throws it back. Our Men's Classic 6mm Comfort Fit Wedding Band is the purest version of this: no texture, no bevel, just a smooth, reflective surface. It's the band that reads as formal and traditional, and it's the one most men picture when they picture a wedding ring.
The tradeoff: high polish shows every scratch. Not damage — just the ordinary marks of a ring you actually wear — but they're visible under bright light because there's nothing to break up the reflection.
What Brushed (Satin) Actually Looks Like
A brushed or satin finish takes that same shape and works fine parallel lines into the surface, so it catches light softly instead of throwing it hard. Our Men's Brushed Wedding Band uses this finish — understated, modern, and more forgiving day to day, since small scratches blend into the texture instead of standing out against a mirror shine.
Which One Should You Pick?
If you work with your hands, or you just don't want to think about your ring, brushed hides wear better and needs less upkeep. If you want the traditional look and don't mind an occasional polish, high shine has a timeless quality brushed doesn't quite match. Neither is more "real" or more durable — both are solid 14K gold, and the finish is purely how the surface is worked, not what it's made of.
Common Questions
Does a brushed finish wear off over time?
No — the brushed texture is worked into the metal itself, not a coating, so it doesn't wear away or need to be reapplied. Normal daily wear can soften it slightly over years, and we can always re-brush it for you.
Can a brushed band be polished later if I change my mind?
Yes. Since it's solid 14K gold, we can re-finish it to high polish, or polish it back to brushed if you go the other way first.
