The Knife-Edge Profile
Where a dome curves continuously and a flat band sits level, a knife-edge angles up from both rims to meet at a defined center line. The two faces sit at different angles to the light, which means one is almost always brighter than the other — that contrast is what makes the profile read as sharp and architectural rather than soft. The ridge itself is finished slightly rounded, not literally sharp, so it wears comfortably and does not cut into a neighboring finger.
Why 5mm Suits This Profile
Width matters more on a knife-edge than on any other band we make. The whole effect depends on having two distinct faces catching light differently, and a narrow band gives each face very little to work with. How It Differs From a Bevel
These two are confused more than any other pair. A bevel chamfers the outer corners and leaves the center face flat, so the ring keeps a broad plateau across the top. A knife-edge removes that plateau entirely and runs both faces up to the ridge. The result is a slimmer, more angular read on the hand and a much stronger play of light. Choose the bevel if you want a flat surface with softened corners; choose this if you want the band itself to have an edge.
Fit and Comfort
The interior is comfort-fit, gently domed rather than flat, so the band clears the knuckle without dragging and sits without pressure points through a long day. Because the profile tapers to a ridge rather than sitting flat, a knife-edge reads slightly lighter on the hand than its measurement suggests — 5mm of presence without 5mm of bulk.
Choosing Your Metal
Yellow gold gives the ridge its warmest glow and the most traditional read. White gold is where this profile is at its sharpest — the contrast between the two lit faces is strongest in a cool metal, and the band reads almost like folded steel. Rose gold sits between them and softens the whole geometry. Each band is cast in the metal you choose, solid throughout — never plated, never gold-filled.

We hold no inventory. When your order arrives, this band is cast in your size and your metal, then the ridge is cut and both faces polished by hand at our bench in Woodside. Production runs two to three weeks before it ships free and fully insured. Every piece carries a lifetime warranty on workmanship and free resizing, and non-engraved bands can be returned within fourteen days.
