Before you decide on a finish or a texture, there's a more fundamental question: how wide should your band actually be? It's the one spec that affects every single day you wear the ring, and it's easy to underthink it when you're focused on style.
What 5mm Actually Feels Like on the Hand
5mm reads as a normal, everyday band — present, but not heavy. It's the width we use for our Rustic Hammered, Flat Satin, Satin Diamond, and 5mm Beveled Edge bands. If you have a slimmer build, wear other rings regularly, or you'd rather not think about your band once it's on, 5mm is usually the more comfortable everyday choice.
What 6mm Actually Feels Like
6mm has real weight and presence — substantial without tipping into bulky. Most of our signature styles come at this width: the Classic, Brushed, Beveled Edge, Chain Link, and Milgrain bands, plus our signature Triborough, which also comes in 3mm through 7mm. If you have a larger hand, want the ring to be unmistakably present, or you're not wearing other jewelry alongside it, 6mm tends to feel more proportional.
A Few Things That Actually Matter More Than the Number
Hand size matters more than any general rule — a 6mm band on a narrow finger can look disproportionate, while the same width on a broader hand looks balanced. If you already wear a watch or other rings regularly, a slightly narrower band often sits better alongside them. And if you're between sizes or genuinely unsure, 5mm is the safer default — it's easier to get used to a slightly narrower band than to adjust to one that feels too heavy.
Common Questions
Can I try a width before committing?
Every band is made to order, so we can't offer in-store try-on, but we're glad to talk you through sizing and proportion over text or phone before you order — 929-806-1502.
Does width affect the price?
Yes — a wider band uses more gold, so 6mm styles generally run somewhat higher than the same design at 5mm.
