Product Description

1 Carat Pear Lab-Grown Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring in 14K Gold

A 1ct pear cut Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, held in three prongs with a V-cap over the point, on a slim tapered band in solid 14K gold. Yellow, white or rose, cut to your finger and made in 7 to 10 business days on my bench in Woodside, Queens. Here is what people ask me before they choose a pear.

How big is a 1 carat pear diamond?

Roughly 8mm long by 5mm wide. A 1 carat round is about 6.5mm across, so the pear gives you about a millimeter and a half more length for the same carat weight. That extra length runs along the finger, which is where you actually notice it. Among the elongated shapes the pear sits between the oval and the marquise — more dramatic than an oval, less severe than a marquise.

Does a pear make your finger look longer?

Yes, and more than an oval does, because the taper toward the point draws the eye in one direction instead of both. The effect is strongest on shorter fingers. It is the main reason people cross over from oval to pear once they have tried both on.

Which way should the point face?

Toward your fingertip. That is the convention and it is also what makes the shape do its work — the taper pointing outward is what lengthens the hand. Worn the other way the stone reads shorter and the point sits against your knuckle, which is less comfortable and catches more. Yours is set point-out.

Is the point going to chip?

The tip is the vulnerable part of a pear, so yours is capped. Three prongs hold the stone: two at the rounded end and a V-prong wrapped over the point, so the sharpest edge sits under metal rather than exposed. Three prongs also show more of the stone than four or six would, which suits a shape whose whole appeal is its outline.

What color and clarity is the diamond?

D through F, the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, which is eye-clean at any angle. Color matters more on a pear than on a round because tapered shapes pool body color at the tip — a stone in the G to J range shows warmth at the point where a round would hide it. Staying in D–F keeps the tip as white as the belly. The IGI report ships with the ring.

What about the bow-tie?

Every pear has one — a darker band across the widest part where facets fail to return light. On a well-cut stone you have to look for it; on a badly cut one it is the first thing you see, and it does not appear on any lab report. I check each pear face-up at the bench before it goes into a setting rather than buying to a spec sheet.

Which wedding band fits a pear?

A chevron or contoured band nests against the point and sits flush. A straight band leaves a wedge of daylight where the tip crosses it. I make both to order, so tell me when you order and I will cut the pair to meet properly.

Is the gold solid, or plated?

Solid 14K throughout — not plated over brass, not gold-filled. White gold is rhodium-finished the way every white gold ring is, and I re-finish yours whenever it needs it. Nickel-free in all three colors.

How long does it take, and can it be resized?

Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.

What if I want a different shape?

There is a 1ct marquise solitaire if you want more length, and a 1ct round solitaire if you want the classic. Anything not on the site, I build custom — that is most of what I do.

Who makes it?

I do. One bench, one pair of hands, in a workshop in Woodside, Queens. Nothing here sits in a case waiting for a buyer — yours is cast, set and finished after you order it, cut to your finger rather than sized down to it. If something is wrong with it, you are talking to the person who made it.
