Product Description

2.5 Carat Pear Lab-Grown Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring

A 2.5ct pear cut Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, held in five prongs, one seated over the point, on a plain polished band in solid 14K gold. Made to order in 7 to 10 business days on my bench in Woodside, Queens.

How big is a 2.5 carat pear diamond?

Roughly 12mm long by 8mm wide. Both numbers are worth sitting with. Twelve millimeters runs past the width of nearly any finger, and 8mm across the belly is wider than a 2ct round is in total. A 2.5ct round measures 8.7mm; this covers close to 3.5mm more finger length for the identical weight. Along with the marquise it is one of the two largest face-up stones available at any carat weight.

Which way should the point face?

Toward your fingertip. That is the convention and it is what makes the shape work — the taper pointing outward lengthens the hand. Worn the other way the stone reads shorter, and a 12mm point sitting against the knuckle catches on everything it passes. Yours is set point-out.

Is the point going to chip at this size?

This is the question that matters most at two and a half carats, and the answer is entirely about how it is set. A stone this tall and this heavy takes harder knocks, and the tip of a pear is the most vulnerable point on any diamond. Yours is covered: five prongs hold it, two at the rounded end, two along the sides and one seated over the point, so the sharpest edge sits under metal rather than exposed. At 12mm I will not build it any other way.

Does it need a heavier setting than a smaller pear?

Yes, and in a specific way. The weight of a pear sits off-center, toward the rounded end, so a 2.5ct stone puts uneven load on the basket. Prongs and a shank sized for a one carat stone will loosen at the broad end first. Yours is built for the weight and for where that weight sits — including a second gallery under the head, an extra rail of gold beneath the basket that carries the load rather than leaving all of it on the prongs. Most makers leave that gallery out.

What color and clarity is the diamond?

D through F, the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, eye-clean at any angle. Color matters more on a pear than a round because tapered shapes pool body color at the tip, and a 12mm taper gathers a great deal of it — a warmer grade shows plain yellow at the point where a round would hide it entirely. Staying in D–F keeps the tip as white as the belly. The IGI report ships with the ring.

Which wedding band fits a pear?

A chevron or contoured band, for two reasons. The first is the point: a straight band leaves a wedge of daylight where the tip crosses it, and at 12mm that wedge is wide enough to notice immediately. The second is the gallery above — a straight band meets it rather than the shank and stands off, while a curved band clears it and nests flush. I make both to order, so tell me and I will cut the pair to meet properly — or start with the plain contour band or the pavé contour.

How long does it take, and can it be resized?

Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.

Want a different weight or shape?

The same ring runs at 1ct. To compare shapes at this weight, start with the diamond shape guide. Anything not on the site, I build custom.

Who makes it?

I do. One bench, one pair of hands, in a workshop in Woodside, Queens. Nothing here sits in a case waiting for a buyer — yours is cast, set and finished after you order it.
