Men's Ice Finish Grooved Wedding Band – 7mm 14K Gold
Three bands of ice-finished gold, split by two bright polished grooves and framed by stepped polished edges. The ice finish is a random web of fine scratches cut into the surface, so your ring throws back light like frost on a window, a little differently from every angle. Seven millimeters wide, comfort fit, solid 14K yellow, white or rose gold, milled from solid tube on my bench in Woodside, Queens.
What is an ice finish?
An ice finish is made by working the gold with a fine cutting tool in short, overlapping strokes that run in every direction. Unlike a brushed finish, which runs in one direction, or a sandblasted finish, which is a soft even frost, ice has sparkle: each tiny cut is a facet that catches light on its own. On your band it sits on three raised sections, and the polished grooves between them stay mirror-bright, so the texture reads in clean stripes instead of one busy surface. The stepped polished edges give the whole ring a finished frame, the way a molding frames a door.
How wide and thick is it?
Your band is 7mm wide and about 1.6mm thick, with a comfort-fit interior that is gently domed and polished smooth, so it slides over the knuckle easily and has no hard inside edge. Seven millimeters is a confident width: it suits larger hands and anyone who wants his wedding band to be noticed, while the low 1.6mm profile keeps it from feeling chunky. It is solid 14K gold throughout, never hollow, never plated.
Why milled instead of cast?
Your band starts as a solid tube of extruded 14K gold, metal that has already been compressed and worked, and I mill the profile, grooves and stepped edges out of it rather than pouring gold into a mold. That gives you dense metal with no casting porosity. It matters most on a textured band: the ice finish is cut into the surface, and on gold without hidden pores every stroke comes out crisp and even, and the polished grooves stay razor-clean.
Does an ice finish hide scratches?
Better than almost any other finish. A polished band shows every mark against a smooth mirror; an ice finish is already made of fine cuts, so the scratches daily life adds blend into the pattern. Over years the texture softens a little at its highest points, and when you want it sharp again, send it back and I will recut the ice finish and repolish the grooves and edges by hand.
Yellow, white or rose gold?
Yellow gold makes the ice finish glow warm and rich, the most classic version. White gold turns it bright and frosty, closest to the look of actual ice. Rose gold softens the texture into a warm copper shimmer that pairs well with a rose or yellow engagement ring. All three are solid 14K and priced the same.
Same design, different finish or width
If you like the grooved layout but want something quieter, the 6mm grooved sandblasted band uses the same idea with a soft matte center and brushed rails. For the slimmest, simplest version, the 5mm brushed band with polished groove keeps a single bright groove on brushed gold. For texture across the full face of the band, see the cross-hatched textured band, or the faceted textured band. Browse every men's wedding band in the catalog.
How long does it take, and what if it does not fit?
Your band is made to order in 7 to 10 business days, in US sizes 8.5 through 13 including halves; ask if you need a size outside that range. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and has not been engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch.
Who makes it?
I do. I started in 2016 at a family wedding band workshop in Long Island City, and bands are still the heart of what I make. Your ring is milled from solid tube, then textured and finished by hand after you order it, in my workshop in Woodside, Queens.
