Product Description

Emerald Cut Hidden Halo Engagement Ring — 1ct Lab-Grown Diamond in 14K Gold

A 1ct emerald cut Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, held in four prongs above a concealed halo of pavé, on a 2mm polished band in solid 14K gold or platinum. From above it reads as a clean solitaire. From the side, a line of small diamonds runs beneath the crown where only you can see it. Made to order in 7 to 10 business days on my bench in Woodside, Queens.

What is a hidden halo?

A ring of small pavé diamonds set into the basket underneath the center stone, facing outward rather than up. Looked at straight down, you see nothing but the emerald cut and four prongs. Turn your hand and the halo catches light from the side. It is the detail nobody notices in a photograph and everybody notices in person, which is exactly the appeal — you get the sparkle without the visible ring of stones that makes a traditional halo read as a halo.

Does a hidden halo make the stone look bigger?

Not in the way a traditional halo does, and that is the point. A visible halo adds physical width to the outline — it genuinely enlarges the footprint, but everyone can see the frame. A hidden halo adds no width at all. What it does is lift the stone slightly and throw light up into the pavilion from below, which makes the diamond read brighter and more alive rather than wider. If you want a bigger outline, buy more carat. If you want the stone to look like it is lit from underneath, this is how.

Why a hidden halo suits an emerald cut in particular

An emerald cut is a step cut. It does not scatter light — it holds it in long, slow flashes, which is why people love it and also why some people find it too quiet next to a brilliant. A hidden halo answers that without touching the thing that makes the shape work. The clean open table stays clean; the fine sparkle sits underneath, out of the sightline. On a round brilliant a hidden halo is decoration. On an emerald cut it is a fix for the one complaint the shape attracts.

How big is a 1 carat emerald cut?

Roughly 7mm long by 5mm wide. It faces up longer than a 1 carat round, which is about 6.5mm across, but narrower, because a step cut carries more of its weight in depth. The wide open table makes it look more substantial than the millimeters suggest — emerald cuts consistently photograph and wear larger than their measurements read on paper.

Why does clarity matter more on an emerald cut?

Because step-cut facets are windows, not mirrors. A brilliant cut bounces light back at you and buries an inclusion in the noise; an emerald cut lets you look straight down into the stone, and an inclusion that would vanish in a round stays visible here. That is why yours is VS+ rather than the SI grades common at this size. The same logic applies to color: the open table shows body tint, so D through F is what keeps the table clean and the flashes white. The IGI report ships with the ring.

Are the corners fragile?

No. An emerald cut's corners are beveled rather than pointed, which makes it one of the most durable shapes you can wear every day — no V-prongs needed, nothing to chip against a doorframe the way a marquise or pear tip can. Four prongs, one at each corner, and the stone is secure.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?

Yes. The halo sits up at the crown, not down at the shank, so the 2mm band underneath meets a straight wedding band without a gap. That is one of the practical advantages of hiding the halo rather than setting it around the stone — nothing gets in the way at the bottom. Tell me when you order and I will cut the pair together.

Is the gold solid, or plated?

Solid 14K throughout — not plated over brass, not gold-filled. Platinum is available. White gold is rhodium-finished the way every white gold ring is, and I re-finish yours whenever it needs it. Nickel-free in all colors.

How long does it take, and can it be resized?

Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.

What if I want the same shape without the halo?

The 1ct emerald cut solitaire is this ring with a plain basket. There is also an emerald cut in a full bezel and an emerald cut with lotus prongs and milgrain if you want something more worked. Anything not on the site, I build custom.

Who makes it?

I do. One bench, one pair of hands, in a workshop in Woodside, Queens. Setting a hidden halo means placing eight to ten stones you will almost never see, under a center stone that shows every imprecision — it is the fussiest work on this ring and the reason it costs a little more than the plain version. Nothing here sits in a case waiting for a buyer. Yours is cast, set and finished after you order it.
