4mm Milgrain Wedding Band in Solid 14K Gold
A flat, high-polished face framed on both edges by a row of hand-set milgrain beads, cast in solid 14K gold at a 4mm width. Milgrain is the oldest decorative technique in wedding bands — a fine line of tiny beads worked along the rim — and it does something no plain band can: it draws a clean border around the metal, so the ring reads as considered rather than merely bought. Made to order in our Woodside, Queens workshop.
The Milgrain Detail
Each edge carries a continuous row of miniature beads, cut and rolled by hand along the rim of the band. The technique dates to Art Deco and Edwardian jewelry, where it was used to soften the transition between metal and stone. On a plain band it works differently: the two beaded lines frame the polished center like a border on a page, catching light at a finer scale than the flat face beside them. From across a room the band reads as a clean line of gold; up close, the detail appears.
The Profile and Fit
The center face is flat and polished to a mirror, which gives the milgrain rows something bright to sit against — the contrast between smooth and beaded is the whole point of the design. At 4mm it stays slim on the hand, and the interior is comfort-fit, gently domed so it clears the knuckle without dragging. The beading sits on the outer rim rather than the contact surface, so nothing textured touches the finger.
Choosing Your Metal
Yellow gold gives the milgrain its most traditional, heirloom-adjacent read — the version closest to the antique bands the technique comes from. White gold sharpens the contrast between the beaded rows and the polished center, making the detail more graphic and more visible. Rose gold warms the whole thing and suits the vintage character of milgrain particularly well. Each band is cast in the metal you choose, solid throughout — never plated, never gold-filled.
Made to Order in Queens
We hold no inventory. When your order arrives, this band is cast in your size and your metal, then the milgrain is worked and the face polished by hand at our bench in Woodside. Production runs two to three weeks before it ships free and fully insured. Every piece carries a lifetime warranty on workmanship and free resizing, and non-engraved bands can be returned within fourteen days.
A Width or Finish We Don't List
If you want this milgrain at a wider profile, a satin center instead of polished, or a slimmer matching band for a partner, write to me. I make these one at a time — the width is a decision, not a limitation.
