How much finger does a 1 carat marquise cover?
Roughly 10mm long by 5mm wide. Compare that to a 1 carat round, which is about 6.5mm across, and you can see where the marquise earns its reputation: it spreads the same carat weight along a longer axis, which gives it the largest face-up length of any diamond shape at a given weight. A 1ct marquise reads closer to a carat and a half on the hand than the number on the report suggests.
Does a marquise make your finger look longer?
It does, and that is most of why people choose it. The stone runs lengthwise along the finger rather than across it, so the eye follows the line out toward the fingertip instead of stopping at the width of the band. On shorter fingers the effect is obvious. On long fingers it is elegant rather than dramatic. Either way you are getting visible size for carat weight you did not have to pay for.
Aren't the points fragile?
The tips are the vulnerable part of any marquise, which is exactly why yours are capped. This setting uses six prongs: a V-prong wrapping each point, plus two along either side. The V-prongs sit over the tips rather than beside them, so the two sharpest edges of the stone are covered by metal instead of exposed to a doorframe. You give up a sliver of the visual line at each end and you get a stone that survives being worn daily. That is the right trade and I would not build it the other way without you asking.
What color and clarity is the diamond?
D through F, which is the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, which is eye-clean at any angle. Color matters more on a marquise than on a round: elongated shapes concentrate body color at the tips, so a stone in the G to J range shows warmth at both ends where a round would hide it. Staying in D–F is what keeps the points as white as the middle. The IGI report ships with the ring.
Which wedding band fits a marquise?
A contoured or notched band follows the point and sits flush against the setting. A straight band will leave a visible gap where the tip crosses it, which some people like and most do not expect. Since I make both to order, tell me when you order and I will cut the pair so they meet properly.
Is the gold solid, or plated?
Solid 14K throughout — not plated over brass, not gold-filled. White gold is rhodium-finished the way every white gold ring is, and I re-finish yours whenever it needs it. Nickel-free in all three colors.
How long does it take, and can it be resized?
Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. What if I want a different marquise setting or shape?
There is a 1ct marquise with round side stones if you want more across the finger, and a 1ct round solitaire if the points are not for you. Anything not on the site, I build custom — that is most of what I do.
