The pillow shape, unframed

The cushion earned its name from its outline, a square with softly rounded corners, like a pillow. Its larger facets throw broad, colorful flashes rather than the needle-sharp sparkle of a round, so the stone seems to glow. With nothing on the band, that glow is what people see first, and it is why the cushion has stayed a favorite for more than a century.

A low dome for a warm stone

A cushion reads warm and understated, and a sharp knife-edge or flat band can look harsh beside it. The rounded top of this 2mm band echoes the stone's curved corners, so the ring feels calm and cohesive, with no hard edges to press into the fingers beside it.
