Back to where the cushion started

The cushion cut descends from the old mine cuts of the 1800s, and milgrain was the finishing edge on the rings those stones were set in. Putting the two together is less a style choice than a return to the cushion's roots, built with a modern stone and a modern, comfortable band.

Three kinds of light

The cushion glows with broad, warm flashes. Twenty-eight pavé diamonds, 0.24 carats in total, add bright pinpoints. The milgrain adds a fine glint along each edge. Few rings layer light this richly without a halo, and it shows most in candlelight and restaurant light, exactly where engagement rings get looked at.

The pavé sits low in the 2mm dome and the milgrain runs along the edges, not the top, so the ring wears like a plain band. Years from now, when the beads have softened with wear, I can re-cut them at the bench.
