The Cyrus Tessera Diamond Band is the most geometrically precise piece in our collection — a 4.5mm wide solid 14K gold band engraved with a continuous checkerboard grid across its full surface, with a round brilliant lab-grown diamond flush-set at every intersection of the grid. The result is a band that is simultaneously a feat of goldsmithing and a feat of diamond setting: 59 individual round brilliant diamonds, each one set into its own circular seat at the corner where four checkerboard squares meet, creating a pattern that is as precise as a circuit board and as beautiful as a mosaic. The name Tessera comes from the Latin for the individual tile in a Roman mosaic — the smallest unit of a larger pattern, each one essential to the whole. In the Cyrus Tessera, each of the 59 diamonds is a tessera: a single point of light that contributes to a pattern that is only visible when you step back and see the whole.
The checkerboard engraving on the Cyrus Tessera is not applied to the surface — it is cut into it. Each square of the grid is a recessed panel, separated from its neighbors by a raised gold rail, creating a three-dimensional surface that catches light differently across its width. The alternating raised rails and recessed panels create a visual rhythm that is simultaneously bold and precise — a pattern that reads as a solid geometric field from a distance and reveals its individual squares and diamond intersections up close. The flush-set diamonds at each grid intersection sit at the raised corners where four squares meet, their table facets level with the top of the gold rails, creating a surface that is completely smooth to the touch while appearing to be covered in a continuous field of diamonds and gold geometry.
The number of diamonds in the Cyrus Tessera is determined by the geometry of the checkerboard grid: three rows of diamonds across the 4.5mm width of the band, spaced to align with the grid intersections, running continuously around the full circumference of the ring. The exact count — 59 stones — is a function of the ring size and the grid spacing, and may vary slightly by size to maintain consistent grid geometry. Every size receives the same three-row checkerboard pattern with diamonds at every intersection, ensuring consistent visual density regardless of size.
In a flush bezel setting within a checkerboard grid, color grade is critical. Each diamond is surrounded by gold on all sides — the raised grid rails frame each stone completely — and any warmth in a lower-color stone would be amplified by the surrounding metal. D–F colorless diamonds ensure that each of the 59 station points reads as a pure, icy point of white light against the gold grid, creating the maximum contrast between the geometric gold pattern and the diamond intersections. In yellow gold, this contrast is most dramatic — warm metal, cool diamonds, precise geometry. In white gold, the diamonds and metal merge into a single field of cool precision. In rose gold, the warm blush metal gives the colorless diamonds a romantic, editorial quality.
