Why Marquise Cut?
The marquise cut was created for Louis XV of France, who commissioned a diamond cut to mirror the shape of the lips of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour. It is the most historically romantic of all diamond shapes — and the most visually elongating. A 1ct marquise appears significantly larger than a 1ct round brilliant because its elongated form covers more finger surface area. Our Story
In our Queens atelier, the Elyra was designed around the marquise cut's defining quality: its length. Every design decision was made to honor that length — the slim band that doesn't compete with the stone, the low-profile bezel that keeps the diamond close to the hand, the mirror-bright finish that reflects light back into the stone from below. Named for the constellation Lyra — the harp of Orpheus, the most beautiful instrument in mythology — the Elyra is a ring that makes music on the hand.
