Product Description

2.5 Carat Marquise Lab-Grown Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring

A 2.5ct marquise cut Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, held in six prongs, one seated over each point, on a slim tapered band in solid 14K gold. Made to order in 7 to 10 business days on my bench in Woodside, Queens. This is the largest face-up stone in the catalog.

How much finger does a 2.5 carat marquise cover?

Roughly 14mm long by 7mm wide. A 2.5ct round measures 8.7mm across — so this covers over 60% more finger length at the identical carat weight. Fourteen millimeters extends past the width of any finger and reads closer to three and a half carats than to two and a half. Nothing else at this weight, in any shape, presents more diamond to the eye.

Is a 2.5ct marquise too much?

For most hands, yes, and I would rather say it than sell it badly. Fourteen millimeters of diamond running up a finger is theater. On a long, slim hand with a size 7 or above it can read genuinely elegant. On a size 4 or 5 it will overwhelm the hand and catch on everything she owns. If you want unmistakable size without that, a 2.5ct oval at 10.5mm is the same weight in a quieter outline, and a 2ct marquise at 13mm is a real step down in presence. Send me her ring size and I will tell you straight which of the three suits her hand.

Aren't the points fragile at this size?

The tips are the weak point of any marquise and a 14mm stone stands taller and takes harder knocks than anything smaller — which is why yours are covered rather than left open. Six prongs hold it: one seated over each point, plus two along either side. The end prongs sit on the tips rather than beside them, so the two sharpest edges on a very large stone are under metal instead of exposed to a doorframe. At two and a half carats this is structural, not decorative, and I will not build it the other way.

What color and clarity is the diamond?

D through F, the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, eye-clean at any angle. Color matters more on a marquise than on any other shape — elongated cuts concentrate body color at the tips, and a 14mm stone has two long tapers for it to gather in. A warmer grade shows obvious yellow at both ends where a round would hide it entirely. Staying in D–F is what keeps the points as white as the middle. The IGI report ships with the ring.

What about the bow-tie?

Every marquise has one across its center, more pronounced in this shape than in an oval or pear, and at two and a half carats a poor one ruins the stone. It appears nowhere on a lab report, so it cannot be specified around. I check every marquise face-up at the bench before it goes near a setting, and at this weight I reject the large majority of what I am shown.

Which wedding band fits a marquise?

A contoured or notched band, for two reasons. The first is the points: a straight band leaves a visible gap where the tip crosses it, and at 14mm that gap is wide. The second is the head — there is a second gallery beneath the basket, an extra rail of gold that carries the stone's weight and stops the prongs flexing over years of wear. At this weight it is structural, and most makers leave it out. A straight band meets that gallery rather than the shank and stands off; a curved band clears it and nests flush. Since I make both to order, tell me and I will cut them as a pair — or start with the plain contour band or the pavé contour.

How long does it take, and can it be resized?

Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.

The same ring runs at 1ct. To compare shapes, start with the diamond shape guide. Anything not on the site, I build custom.

Who makes it?

I do. One bench, one pair of hands, in a workshop in Woodside, Queens. Nothing here sits in a case waiting for a buyer — yours is cast, set and finished after you order it.
