A 1.5ct round brilliant Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, four-prong set on a plain polished band in solid 14K gold. How big is a 1.5 carat round diamond?
About 7.4mm across. A 1ct round measures 6.5mm, so you are gaining just under a millimeter of diameter — which sounds small and does not look small. On a size 6 finger a 7.4mm round covers a good portion of the width and reads clearly as a large stone rather than a classic one. Put them side by side and the difference is obvious.
Is 1.5ct the right size to buy?
For most people, yes, and here is the reasoning rather than a sales line. Carat price does not scale linearly — the jump from 1.5ct to 2ct costs far more than the jump from 1ct to 1.5ct, because large rough is disproportionately rare. A carat and a half sits at the point where the stone reads unmistakably substantial and the price per millimeter has not yet turned against you. It is the best value in the catalog at a size nobody would call small.
Round or an elongated shape at this weight?
Worth asking honestly. A round carries much of its weight in depth, below the girdle where nobody sees it. An oval at the same 1.5 carats runs about 9mm long and a marquise about 12mm — both cover more finger for the same money. What a round gives you in exchange is the brightest light return of any shape, and the fact that nobody has ever been disappointed to receive one. If you know she wants a round, buy the round.
Why does cut matter most here?
Because a round brilliant is judged entirely on how it returns light, and at 7.4mm a badly proportioned stone shows a dull center you will notice every day. Cut is the only one of the four Cs that is workmanship rather than luck. A well-cut 1.25ct beats a poorly cut 1.75ct in any light, from any distance — which is why I would rather you spend on cut than on the last quarter carat.
What color and clarity is the diamond?
D through F, the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, eye-clean at any angle. A round brilliant's faceting hides inclusions and warmth better than any other shape, but at a carat and a half there is more stone than at one, and grades that pass unnoticed lower down begin to show. The IGI report ships with the ring.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The plain shank meets almost any straight band without a gap. Since I make both to order, tell me and I will cut the pair together.
How long does it take, and can it be resized?
Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.
