Product Description

1.5 Carat Oval Lab-Grown Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring

A 1.5ct oval cut Lab-Grown Diamond, D–F color, VS+ clarity, IGI certified, four-prong set on a plain polished band in solid 14K gold. Made to order in 7 to 10 business days on my bench in Woodside, Queens. Here is what changes when you move up from a carat.

How big is a 1.5 carat oval diamond?

Roughly 9mm long by 6.5mm wide. A 1ct oval runs about 8mm by 5.7mm, so you are gaining a full millimeter of length and almost a millimeter of width — which does not sound like much until you see them side by side. At 1.5 carats an oval covers close to half the width of a size 6 finger and stops reading as classic. It reads as noticeable.

Is 1.5ct the right jump from 1ct?

It is the most common upgrade and the one with the best return on the money. Carat price does not scale linearly — the jump from 1.5ct to 2ct costs far more than the jump from 1ct to 1.5ct, because larger rough is disproportionately rare. At 1.5 carats in an elongated shape you are buying the most visible size per dollar available anywhere in the catalog.

Why does an oval look bigger than a round at the same weight?

A round carries much of its weight in depth, below the girdle where nobody sees it. An oval spreads that same weight lengthwise, so more of the stone shows face-up. At 1.5 carats a round measures about 7.4mm across; this oval runs 9mm. Same weight, same price bracket, a millimeter and a half more finger covered.

What about the bow-tie?

Every oval has one — a darker band across the center where facets fail to return light — and it gets more visible as stones get larger. It appears nowhere on a lab report, so you cannot buy against it from a spec sheet. At this size I check every oval face-up at the bench before it goes into a setting, because a bow-tie that is forgivable at a carat is not at a carat and a half.

What color and clarity is the diamond?

D through F, the colorless range, and VS+ clarity, eye-clean at any angle. Both grades matter more as the stone gets larger — more surface to show tint, more room to show an inclusion. Elongated shapes also concentrate color toward the ends, so a warmer grade reads yellow at the tips where a round would hide it. The IGI report ships with the ring.

Which wedding band fits it?

A contoured band. There is a second gallery under the head — an extra rail of gold beneath the basket that carries the stone's weight and stops the prongs flexing over years of wear. It is why this head will still be tight in a decade, and most makers leave it out. It is also why a straight band will not seat: the band meets the gallery rather than the shank and stands off, leaving a gap under the stone. A curved band dips at the center, clears the gallery and nests flush. I make both to order, so tell me and I will cut the pair to meet properly — or start with the plain contour band or the pavé contour.

How long does it take, and can it be resized?

Made to order in 7 to 10 business days, sizes 4 through 9 including halves. Resizing is complimentary within 60 days of delivery, craftsmanship carries a lifetime warranty, and you have 14 days to return it if it is not right and you have not had it engraved. It ships fully insured in our signature suede pouch with the IGI report.

Want a different weight or shape?

The same ring runs at 1ct. For other shapes at this weight, or to understand how the shapes compare, start with the diamond shape guide. Anything not on the site, I build custom — that is most of what I do.

Who makes it?

I do. One bench, one pair of hands, in a workshop in Woodside, Queens. Nothing here sits in a case waiting for a buyer — yours is cast, set and finished after you order it, cut to your finger rather than sized down to it.
